Need a new printer? Ever wondered what the difference between an inkjet and a laser printer was? Jackson talks us through the different features of both in this weeks Tech Tip.
Oh hey, didn’t see you there. Sorry, just going through some of the new printers we got in stock. Actually I might take you through a few. There are a lot of different options when it comes to printing, whether it’s in the home use or an office use or business. Today I’m going to help show you some of the different models you can go for.
When it comes to printing, the two main types that most people are aware of, and the most popular, is an inkjet and a laser printer. They differ a few different ways. The main way is that the way the ink is actually put onto the page. With an inkjet printer you’ve got a liquid ink, which gets put onto your page. With a laser you got a powder, toner cartridge. So they have both strengths and weaknesses in both areas.
The main real strength for the laser printer is the cost. With an inkjet printer you tend to pay a lot more for the ink cartridges, and for most pages if you’re printing black or colour, you’re probably looking at about 20 to 30 cents a page, which can be quite expensive if you do a lot of printing, where with your laser printer, the toner cartridges can be a higher up front cost, but they do last a lot longer. You’re probably only looking about 12 to 15 cents a page in a lot of cases, which works out really great if you’re doing a huge volume of printing.
There are a few other things. When you’re printing a page with an inkjet printer, because it’s a liquid ink, you’ll probably find the page is a little bit soggy, which if you’re doing a lot of printing at a high volume, you don’t want soggy pages, no one likes soggy paper. With a laser jet printer, you don’t have that problem because of the way it actually lasers onto the page. We have a bit of a range, so you can go from a really basic inkjet printer, which you’re looking at about 80 bucks, and it goes all the way up to a really high end laser printer, like these HP laser jets here.
